Having aptly been described as a "Venetian palazzo on the Thames," the Shadwell Basin Housing development is widely considered one of the finest achievements of the London Docklands regeneration. Designed by the celebrated architects MacCormac Jamieson Prichard (MJP) and completed in 1988, this estate proved that modern housing could be grand, civic, and beautiful.
Drawing inspiration from the 19th-century warehouses of Liverpool’s Albert Dock, the design features striking red brickwork, rhythmic concrete colonnades, and bold, primary-red details that reflect beautifully in the water below. It doesn't just sit next to the dock; it embraces it, creating a public waterfront square that feels more like a Mediterranean harbor than an East London estate.
Recently granted Grade II listed status for its exceptional architectural quality, Shadwell Basin is a true icon of British Postmodernism. This collection celebrates the bold arches and maritime spirit of Wapping’s most picturesque landmark.
