You might know it as the Chase Tower. But to anyone who has ever looked up at the Dallas skyline, it is simply "The Keyhole Building."
Now officially renamed the Dallas Arts Tower, this 55-story giant is a definitive masterpiece of Postmodern architecture. Designed by Richard Keating (of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill) and completed in 1987, it rejected the flat roofs and uniform repetitive facades of the international style in favor of a spectacular curved glass "barrel vault" crown.
Its most famous feature, however, is the massive 7-story "Sky Window" cut through the center of the building near the top. This 27-foot-wide hole turned a standard office tower into a sculptural landmark, proving that 1980s architecture was all about creating a memorable silhouette.
Whether you are a Dallas local who grew up navigating by the "Keyhole," a fan of bold 80s design, or a collector of architectural history, this collection celebrates the building with the most memorable crown in Texas.
